Mini-me is probably cheaper if you do the work yourself, and you'll have something unique and will learn in the process.

 

well i made my decision on i wasnt sure of the condition of a used engine swap but i knew my motor was mint (doesnt burn any oil) so i just did a mini me

 

I've had this car up on a lift, and it doesn't leak at all. The motor in the car has 188k, though, so it doesn't exactly 'fill me' with confidence, but neither does buying a used engine. I have to swap this car over to a manual as well, so I've got plenty of work ahead of me.

Automatic Del slow?

First convert to 5spd and then get a complete. Then rebuild the z6 so you can feel better about it rather then just putting in a used z6 engine in it

 

Just throwing it out I'm not all that happy with my b7 z6 mini me in my del slow si. Looking for a z6 bottom to do a high comp build.

 

switching from a d15b2 automatic to a mini-me with a si tranny feels like night and day. if i had to do it all over again i wouldn't. i would just convert to manual and build/boost with what you got.

 

The more I read, the more people seem to say this.

I'm lucky enough that this isn't a DD, and I'm just looking for a good starting point. I think the mini me is out. But the manual is definitely in.

If you read the 'serious discussion' thread about the storm through DC - I was without power and the Z6 engine and trans sold while I took my family to Delaware (dude, we're in Delaware) to escape the lack of power/AC. So I'll be doing some more research. Thank you all for the input

there are pros and cons, a mini me build essentially takes the best and puts them together if you do it right.

meaning its better to mini with a ZC and or an a6 than a b7 or a b2.

Do a full z6 swap. it wont make you crazy.

But if you do a mini dont make a vtec mini, make a nonvtec mini and boost it.

Just saying, making a mini out of everything and having a bad tune doesnt work out for people who dont know what they want to do.

i was gonna do a b2/b7 build with z6 IM, cam, and a y8 gear on my first rex.

I bought the zc/z6 i have now, because it was done right.

 

just did a mini me on my buddy del slow today(never did a head swap before). it is a nice lreaning eperence for some one exprenced like me but he was kinda in over his head but honestly, after driving it wasnt so great my D15Beast had way more pull even chuging oil. honestly man hes jelly on my zc's pull(sig) if you have ascess to getting one id swap it in.

I built a y no vtech and turbo.....and just did a mine swap on it and I love it even more!

 

You went turbo then went with a vtec head? Interesting. Did you dyno before/after?
