any d series head other than a DOHC ZC head and a D17 head.

 

And am I correct that the distributor must match the head and that all d-series distributors are not the same?

 

the distributor must first match your OBD.

next, find the matching OBD that bolts to the head.

I just bought the car and want to be able to drive it another 25k while I build an engine. The block(D15b7) has 188k. The current head, also D15b7 is toast. I see all kinds of "D" heads of different years and number combos but don't want to bother with to cost of buying a distributor since the one on my D17 is new.

I just arranged to meet a guy tonight with a D15b7 block and head. He says it has 120k and needs a head gasket and maybe rod bearings. hopefully the head will be good enough to get me through 25k and I can use block as a base of my build.

 

so you are replacing a D15B7 head with a D15B7 head.

everything stays the same, same distributor.....

the only D series head that has a weird bolt pattern for the dizzy is the D16Z6. so, if you are going to stay OBD1, just use the D15B7 dizzy you have, unless you decide to go with a Z6 head. in that case, the easiest thing to do is buy a Z6 dizzy
